Recovery SEED usually means a sequence of 12 or 24 words, generated randomly according to the BIP39 standard, upon activation of your Hardware wallet.
The utility of the recovery phrase, namely the Recovery SEED, is that you can restore your wallet when you lose the device or if it breaks.
Very important thing not to be underestimated is the writing of these 12 / 24 words on a sheet of paper, usually supplied with the wallet, which must absolutely remain offline, so do not take photos, do not copy the words, do not scan the sheet.
Put the words on the sheet, in the correct order and without errors.
The English words of Recovery SEED are nothing more than the representation of your “Private Key” the master key with which you can:
- Validate your transactions
- Encrypt your passwords (for example using the Trezor password manager or the Ledger password manager).
- Sign messages
- Log into websites or servers that support SSH protocol
If you have not understood the Recovery SEED is the most important thing, even more important than the hardware wallet itself, if someone comes into possession of the phrase can restore your wallet and all the information contained in it including your cryptocurrencies.
12-word private key example (Recovery SEED):
witch collapse practice feed shame open despair creek road again ice least
The public key used to generate addresses to receive cryptocurrencies in your Hardware wallet is also derived from your private key, in technical terms it is asymmetric encryption.
